From 1912 to1925 (with time
out for the war years) the Gazette du Bon Ton set
the tone for sophisticated style and taste. As a periodical, it was
designed to be both expensive and exclusive. It appeared about ten times a year and appealed to the urban, well-bred
leisure class
of the jazz age. As a publication, the pages were loose and not bound
and enclosed within a cover.
The articles concerned entertainment with emphasis on travel, theater,
restaurants and or haute coutre fashion. See More Info.

The Journal des Dames
(1912 to 1914) was one of three celebrated limited edition periodicals
that appeared at the start of the art deco period. Its audience was
similar to that of the Gazette du Bon Ton. It concentration was
in the fashion world of the time and was celebrated in the highly sophisticated
plates that were part of each issue. Using the pochoir stencil process (see [ Information ] page on this site) each plate blended delicacy
and color with the fashion of the day often against a background setting. Each
plate appealed both to fashion connoisseurs and to collectors of fine
prints. See More Info.
